And finally a PADI OWSI!

Greek text follows!

It was with great anticipation and as lot of anxiety that on April the 14th, 2017 I made my way to Paphos and to Coral Bay Divers to begin my PADI IDC (Instructor Development Course) under the watchful eye of Course Director Jurg Dahler.

Whilst driving there there, a lot of thoughts went through my mind: Am I ready? I am not ready! Will it end in tears? It WILL end in tears.

Well guess what? It did not end. I did it!

A PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor. OWSI for short.

This was definitely one of the most toughest but also at the same time most rewarding experiences of my life. The culmination of a lot of time and effort! At times under adverse circumstances.

So what now? Well now I think TD Diving is ready to launch. TD Diving is ready to be out there and teach and actively show you the joys of diving.

Not only that, but well the compressor is also up and running. The tanks are ready, we are ready. And believe me, once you try scuba diving for the first time, once you experience what it feels like to take your first breath underwater, that’s it! You will be hooked.

Any questions you might have, anything you need to know? Any questions about diving in the beautiful island of Cyprus? We are here and we will happily reply!

Oh and remember all: We want to see: Happy, smiling, diving faces!®

PADI OWSI DIPLOMA DEMETRA

PADI Sold!

Hello buddies!

It has been reported in various sources that PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) has been sold! This is the second time in as many years.

How this will affect the organisation, its structure and its policy remains to be seen.

Below a selection from various sources reporting the story. Surely there will be more updates soon. In the meantime, let me see your Happy, smiling, diving faces!Ⓡ

A very interesting read in respect to braided hoses.

Hey buddies, this is a very interesting read indeed in respect to braided hoses used for scuba diving. If -like myself- are a fan, take care. Make sure you check regularly and more importantly make sure that your regulators are regularly serviced and well looked after. This Article is by Francois Burman, Pr. Eng, MSc and it was published in the Alert Diver Online magazine. Link below!

Dive safely. More importantly dive with: Happy, smiling, diving faces!

TDI Advanced Gas Blender!

I could never imagined that I could achieve this. But I did!

Tah dah! The awards ceremony. After a lot of studying a lot of time in the class, a lot of revision and a lot of strange looking equations and last but not least the exam, finally it was done!

Tony and I both getting certified as TDIU Advanced Gas Blender. Photo here with our instructor Chris Demetriou from Dive-In Larnaca who is extremely knowledgeable, and not to mention patient.

Thank you very much to all the staff at Dive-In Larnaca for having us.

p.s.: The newly refurbished wetroom looks really, really good!

TDI non-diving courses, but still lots of fun!

Well we have been very busy in the past few weeks. With myself being out of scuba diving action for a few months now dow to eye surgery (detached retina, long story, will come back to it at some point), and Tony being home from work for a few weeks we decided to take a couple of non-diving courses.

I have wanted to experience the TDI way of doing things for awhile now. So off we went to Dive-In Larnaca and in the expert hands of instructor Chris Demetriou.

First up was the TDI Nitrox Blender. I was a little apprehensive at the beginning to be honest. Maths was never one of my strong subjects and quite frankly I would rather not do anything math related. Joining us for this course was our good friend Valantis.

Well I shouldn’t have worried. Chris is a very good instructor and actually it all made sense!

Onwards and upwards, for a Greek adventure.

Well buddies, it was the weekend. We were home alone. What better way to be just us, than hopping on a plane and heading off to Athens, Greece!

This is precisely what we did. We decided to stay away from the main touristy attractions and just explore. Explore in all directions from our base, a charing little boutique hotel in Monastiraki area.

Tony has been trying for a few months now, nearly a year to buy a Dive Rite Classic Wing. The old school one. The one with the amazing blue colour. Did I mention that it was in blue? I had to have it.

This was owned by Dimitris Manetakis. Tony tried to get in touch, but due to the language barrier (yeah Tony, this is a dig at you!), this was not possible.

Finally I sent Dimitris a message in Greek and somehow it all came together. As we anxiously awaited at the hotel lobby, there he was! With the wing. And in a few moments it was mine. It all came together in the end. I can’t wait now to dive with it. And I have just the perfect companion. Soon blue one.

Some other hints: we stayed at the O&B Boutique Hotel O&B Hotel, Athens – Greece and we were really impressed with the cleanliness, service and our room. We recommend and we would definitely go back.

We ate at “Ta Karamanlidika” tou Fani. Ta Karamanlidika Restaurant, Athens – Greece which we highly recommend. It is a meat lover’s paradise. The soutzouki is a must, as well as t he sausage platter. The fact that it was full of locals and the menu was only in Greek, spoke volumes. I could just fly out to have dinner there.

All in all, I simply can’t wait to get back into the water. Happy, smiling, diving faces! everyone. See you all soon!

It’s official! Happy, smiling, diving faces! has been trademarked

Greek text follows below…….

Well this is kinda my first blog post. This blog will relate around my and my partner’s scuba diving adventures in the beautiful island of Cyprus and beyond!

It is a journey and a journey that I would like to share with all of you.

Well folks a little while back we gave it some thought. There is an expression which is very closely associated with my partner Tony. Not only when doing his divemaster duties but also when acting as a guide dive and also when he just wants to see someone diving. This is the expression: “Happy, smiling, diving faces!”. And we have great news!

This has now been trademarked. I mean wow! This is great.

So let’s keep this first blog entry short and sweet: Happy, smiling, diving faces! Everyone.
